The IFoS Full form represents Indian Forest Service. The Indian Forest Service forms one of the three major segments of the Union’s Government All-India Services. The remaining two are Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and the Indian Police Service (IPS). The IFoS was formed in the year of 1966, under the All-India Services Act, of 1951.

What is IFoS ?

Indian Forest Service , IFoS/IFS is one of the three All India Services of the government of India along with IAS and IPS recruitment conducted by UPSC.Constituted in 1966 under All India Services Act, 1951, the mandate of Service is implementation of the National Forest Policy to ensure. ecological stability of the country through the protection and participatory sustainable management of natural resources. 

Eligibility Criteria for IFoS Exam

IFoS stands for Indian Forest  service. To become an IFS one can qualify the Entrance exam conducted by UPSC.

UPSC Examination is one of the toughest exams to be conducted in India. UPSC stands for Union Public Service Commission is the government agency responsible for the recruitment of officers into the civil services commission and make their career as IAS,IFS,IPS,IFoS etc. officers. The UPSC exam is conducted and candidates are selected on the basis of  eligibility ,age ,education qualification criteria. 

The civil services includes the following major Post by UPSC CSE examination. 

Aspirants are needed to satisfy the following conditions to become eligible for the exam:

  • A citizen of India
  • A degree from a recognized university or institution
  • Age between 21 and 32 years as of August 1 of the year of examination
  • The applicant must meet the physical and medical standards prescribed by the UPSC

Age Eligibility for IFoS

  • OBC (Other Backward Classes): Up to 35 years. 
  • SC/ST (Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes): Up to 37 years.
  • Defense Services Personnel: Up to 35 years.
  • Ex-servicemen: Up to 37 years.
  • Disabled candidates: Up to 42 years for General category, 45 years for OBC, and 47 years for SC/ST.

Education Eligibility for IFoS 

The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree in any of the following ;

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least one of the subjects as Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science.
  • Bachelor’s degree with at least one of the subjects as Botany.
  • Bachelor’s degree with at least one of the subjects as Chemistry.
  • Bachelor’s degree with at least one of the subjects as Geology.
  • Bachelor’s degree with at least one of the subjects as Mathematics.
  • Bachelor’s degree with at least one of the subjects as Statistics.
  • Bachelor’s degree with at least one of the subjects as Physics.
  • Bachelor’s degree with at least one of the subjects as Zoology.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Forestry.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.

Roles and Responsibility of IFoS

Principal Chief Conservator of Forest – The principal chief conservator of the forest is the commanding officer of the forest service.

Additional Chief Conservator of Forest – First off, this official is crucial in supporting the Principal Chief Conservator of Forest in his or her duties.

Deputy Conservator of Forest – The Deputy Conservator officer’s primary responsibilities also include managing issues involving the environment, wildlife, and forests.

Assistant Conservator of Forest – The Assistant officer’s duty is to support higher-ranking officers. Additionally, they carry out some duties related to their post that were allocated to them upon joining.

Forest Range Officer (FRO) – The efficient administration of the forest falls under the purview of this official.
